Raúl Velazco, bass, was born in México and is a member of México Opera Estudio where he performed the roles of Colas in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne and Manuello in Melesio Morales’ opera Anita. He has performed the roles of Polifemo in Handel’s Aci, Galatea e Polifemo and Padre Magistral in Penella’s Don Gil de Alcalá. As part of International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia, Raul performed Colline in La bohème and the roles of Bartolo and Antonio at Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Raúl won 3rd prize at 2022 Carlo Morelli contest as well as being a finalist in the Concurso Latinoamericano de Canto Radio Filarmonía in Peru. He won second prize in the men’s division of the 2023 Maria Callas Brazilian Singing Contest as well as being a district winner at Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Mexico district and encouragement Award at Rocky Mountains Region at the same contest.
