March 18, 2026

The Academy of Vocal Arts celebrates a major achievement as baritone Titus Muzi (’23) and 1st-year soprano Anna Thompson have been named winners of the 2026 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition, following the final round held on March 13.

Muzi and Thompson were selected as two of just four top prize winners in this prestigious national competition, each receiving a $12,000 award. The Gerda Lissner Foundation competition is widely recognized for identifying and supporting emerging operatic talent at pivotal stages of their careers, with past winners going on to appear on leading stages around the world.

For Muzi, this honor marks another significant milestone in his career. Known for his rich baritone and compelling stage presence, he has already begun to establish himself as a rising force among young American singers.

Thompson, currently in her first year of study at AVA, continues an extraordinary run of competition success this season. Her recognition as a top prize winner further affirms her artistry and growing national profile as one of the most promising young sopranos of her generation.

As part of their win, Muzi and Thompson will appear in the Winners Concert at Carnegie Hall on April 29, where they will perform alongside their fellow top prize recipients in one of the world’s most celebrated concert venues.

AVA congratulates Titus Muzi and Anna Thompson on this outstanding accomplishment and looks forward to following their continued success.
