A dark family legend sets the stage for Verdi’s Il trovatore, a searing tale of vengeance, obsession, and fate that drives the headstrong Count di Luna on a relentless quest for truth. His pursuit of a mysterious troubadour, Manrico, pulls together a tangled web of hidden identities, long-buried secrets, and mistaken loyalties. At the heart of the conflict is Leonora, whose devotion to Manrico places her in an impossible position as rival passions collide with devastating consequences. Set against a backdrop of war and superstition, the opera unfolds as a storm of emotion where love and hatred are never far apart.

Driven by some of Verdi’s most electrifying music, Il trovatore is a masterpiece of relentless dramatic intensity and has been a repertoire standard since its 1853 premier in Rome.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
