BREAKING: James Morris Joins BrAVA Philadelphia! March 28, 2020

James Morris (AVA ’71) joins BrAVA Philadelphia! Mr. Morris is a four-time Grammy winner, and his celebrated career at the Metropolitan Opera has included three complete cycles of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen singing the role of Wotan, and Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, both recorded for television and available on DVD. He originated the role of John Claggart in the MET premiere of Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd and has repeated the role in each revival. Frequently performed roles at the MET include The Dutchman in Der Fliegende Holländer, Scarpia in Tosca, The Four Villains in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and the title roles in Don Giovanni and Boris Godunov.

He joins international opera stars and AVA alumni sopranos Angela Meade and Latonia Moore, tenors Bryan Hymel and Taylor Stayton, along with rising opera stars soprano Vanessa Vasquez, mezzo-soprano Hannah Ludwig, baritone Jared Bybee and bass-baritone André Courville. AVA’s current roster of Resident Artists will also lend their voices throughout the evening. The concert will feature a full orchestra, conducted by AVA’s Jeannine B. Cowles Music Director Chair Maestro Christofer Macatsoris.
