AVA Celebrates 25th Annual Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music
PHILADELPHIA – JAN. 7, 2025 – The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) announces the 25th annual Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music. This concert will feature AVA’s Resident Artists and orchestra performing a program of sacred music by some of the most renowned composers in history, including Bach, Debussy, and Vivaldi. The performances will take place on January 25th at Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr and January 26th at The Church of the Holy Trinity in Philadelphia.
Richard Raub, AVA Master Vocal Coach, will conduct the program, which showcases a range of sacred music traditions and styles from the 17th through 20th centuries. The repertoire is selected to showcase the unique abilities of AVA’s Resident Artists while offering a rich variety of musical styles.
“This is the 25th anniversary of the concert, and it’s always been a remarkably special program of solo and group pieces performed by the Resident Artists and AVA Orchestra. I am certainly looking forward to this year’s Jubilate,” remarks Richard Raub. “This year you’ll notice a distinct Baroque era influence in the repertoire that I am excited to present, and my hope is that the beautiful music heard during this concert will linger with the audience for days, if not weeks, to come.”
Julianna Smith, mezzo-soprano and 1st Year Resident Artist, adds, “Performing in Jubilate is an incredible honor. I’ve always been drawn to the beauty and technical brilliance of oratorios, but what I’m most excited about is singing Vivaldi’s ‘Laudamus te,’ an amazing piece by one of my favorite composers. This really is the perfect concert for lovers of classical vocal music.”
AVA invites audiences to experience the depth and emotion of sacred music, performed in two acoustically lush venues with easy accessibility in both Center City and suburban Philadelphia. This year’s Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music celebrates AVA’s 90-year legacy of training exceptional vocal artists and presenting performances that connect deeply with lovers of beautiful singing.
