This special, one-night only event takes places at Rittenhouse Square’s The Church of the Holy Trinity and welcomes AVA’s remarkable incoming class of 10 Resident Artists. Giargiari Bel Canto Competition

Let your voice be heard! An evening of vocal fireworks and beautifully sung arias awaits you! For over 40 years, this competition has showcased the brightest of up-and-coming opera stars. Join them for the annual favorite singing competition, where they’ll compete against each other in song. You’ll also have the opportunity to vote for your favorite singer! Danielle Orlando accompanies.

Faust
Charles-François Gounod (1818-1893)
November 16 – December 3, 2024
The aging philosopher Faust, desperate to regain his youth, sells his soul to the devil and is transformed into a dashing young man. He falls in love with the innocent Marguerite, but the demon Mephistophélès has his own plans for them both. Gounod’s masterpiece has been one of the world’s most popular operas for more than 150 years. The score bursts with unforgettable music and is a sublime experience for young and old alike. Steven White returns to AVA to conduct, and Chas Rader-Shieber directs this operatic epic.

Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music
January 25 & 26, 2025
AVA’s Resident Artists will perform a selection of sacred music, with Master Vocal Coach David Antony Lofton conducting the AVA Opera Orchestra. This beloved tradition will celebrate its 25th year and will showcase the oratorio skills of AVA’s Resident Artists, who will be featured in both solo and ensemble selections. With two beautiful churches as the backdrops, AVA proudly presents this inspiring and sacred vocal concert.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)

Mozart’s classic comedy about the true test of fidelity! The meddling of an experimental philosopher may change the lives of two soon-to-be wed couples. Will the young lovers succumb to the power of seduction or remain true to each other? This quintessential opera features some of the most popular and dazzling music ever composed by Mozart. Robert Kahn conducts the AVA orchestra with music direction by Christofer Macatsoris and stage direction by Jose Maria Condemi.

BrAVA Philadelphia! 90th Anniversary Celebration and Gala

Save the date for AVA’s spectacular BrAVA Philadelphia! 90th Anniversary Celebration and Gala. The evening will feature performances of opera’s greatest arias by our internationally renowned alumni, accompanied by the AVA orchestra. This must-see concert will be the crown jewel of AVA’s 2024-25 season and take place at Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

L’amico Fritz

Travel to the vineyards and cherry orchards for this tale of unexpected romance. Fritz has it all with no intention of marrying. His friend, Rabbi David, bets him within a year he will get married. Confident and set in his ways, Fritz bets his Clairfontaine vineyard. As his friends gather to celebrate his birthday, the beautiful Suzel arrives with a birthday bouquet. Will Fritz lose it all for love? Jeffrey Buchman returns to AVA to direct this sumptuously composed romantic opera.
