Le nozze di Figaro

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)

Conductor: Joseph Colaneri

Director: Tara Faircloth

Scenic Designer: Cameron Anderson

November 8 – December 2, 2025

AVA opens its 91st opera season with Mozart’s beloved classic, Le nozze di Figaro, a razor-sharp comedy of love, deception, and class conflict that still remains relevant today. The opera picks up the story of the quick-witted barber, Figaro, now a valet in the household of Count Almaviva, as he attempts to marry his beloved Susanna while outmaneuvering the philandering Count who has his own designs on the bride.

Set over the course of a single day, this fast-paced farce brings together a colorful cast of characters: the fiery Count Almaviva, his beautiful yet heartbroken wife, Countess Almaviva, the dastardly Dr. Bartolo, the meddling Marcellina, and the lovestruck pageboy Cherubino. With disguises, mistaken identities, and last-minute revelations, the opera unfolds with dazzling complexity and emotional depth, all brought to life by Mozart’s brilliant score.

As fresh today as when it premiered in 1786 at Vienna’s Burgtheater, Le nozze di Figaro was the first of three legendary collaborations between Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, cementing Mozart’s legacy as a master of opera. Blending biting social commentary with sublime music, this landmark of operatic repertoire continues to captivate audiences with its wit, humanity, and timeless insight into the follies of love and power.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
