First-year Resident Artist Anna Thompson, soprano, has been awarded Third Place in the 2026 Dallas Opera National Vocal Competition, one of the country’s most respected showcases for emerging operatic talent.
Hosted by The Dallas Opera, the annual competition brings together a select group of rising singers from across the United States to compete before a distinguished panel of judges and a live audience. The event highlights artists who demonstrate exceptional vocal ability, musical insight, and dramatic promise as they prepare for professional careers on the operatic stage.
Thompson’s recognition in Dallas marks another significant achievement in a rapidly growing list of honors during her first season at AVA. Earlier this year, she was named a winner of the 2025 awards from the George and Nora London Foundation for Singers and also received a prize from the William Matheus Sullivan Musical Foundation, two organizations known for supporting exceptional young vocal artists at pivotal stages in their development.
At AVA, Thompson is continuing the institution’s long tradition of rigorous operatic training. The Philadelphia-based conservatory provides tuition-free education to a small group of Resident Artists, offering intensive musical, linguistic, and stage training while presenting a full season of fully staged productions.
Through opportunities like the Dallas Opera National Vocal Competition, AVA singers regularly gain national recognition while still in training, demonstrating the level of artistry fostered within the program.
