Music Director & Pianist: Luke Housner
January 20–30, 2018
A cautionary tale about the price of too much power, when a dwarf named Alberich manages to come into possession of the Rhine gold, a ring that enables its bearer to rule the world, but at a terrible cost.
Wagner’s Ring Cycle is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest operatic works ever composed, and Das Rheingold is the first of the four music dramas that comprise the Cycle. AVA’s last production of Das Rheingold during the 2005/06 season featured singers who are now enjoying careers across the globe: Nicole Piccolomini as Flosshilde and Erda, Evelyn Pollock as Woglinde, Michael Fabiano as Froh and Keith Miller as Fafner. Ms. Piccolomini sang Erda (Rheingold and Siegfried) at Oper Leipzig (2013-2017) & Flosshilde at Opera national de Paris in 2010 and Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2007 & 2008. Don’t miss opera’s future stars in this production!
Sung in German with English subtitles
